The past 72 hours have seen Ireland’s media class attempting the intellectual equivalent of reversing a three-ton lorry with a blindfold on.
The spirit of media backtracking has been palpable since footage emerged of last week’s stabbing attack on Gardai by “Irish national” and Pakistani knife enthusiast Abdullah Khan following a day of misinformation warnings from both press and force itself.
WhatsApp groups were ablaze nationwide courtesy of Gript which procured the live-action footage, dutifully puncturing any media spin as to Mr Khan’s national origins complete with shouts of ‘Allah Ahkbur’ as he lunged at the two officers.
A nakedly cynical attempt to spin to the detriment of public safety the Capel Street affair reflects just as badly on the media-Gardai complex that thought it even possible to get away with such deceit.
Capel Street is the new template. A sort of unspoken understanding, call it “The Diversity Protocol” in which the Gardaí supply the biceps and the media supplies the blindfolds. It’s a slick operation until someone leaks a video and ruins the whole thing.
Crime is no stranger in the north inner city but an open-air stabbing of a Garda even five years ago would have garnered a lot more media eyeballs than events of last week as the press moved swiftly to brush the matter under the carpet with a fixation on anti-Indian racism apparently rampant in the Fair City.
Remember the orchestrated media fit after the Grafton Street firework ‘attack’ during COVID or the overemphasis on the rioting post-Parnell Street stabbing rather than the attack on the school itself. Or Private Crotty? The imbalance in tone and coverage is striking to most but is part of the new informal arrangement the media and state apparatus is engaging as the Republic follows Continental and UK norms when it comes to diversity fueled crime.
Thankfully at least some of the group chats the footage of the Capel Street debacle was shared were undoubtedly Garda groupchats a mere few weeks before the September 1st start date for Justin Kelly to the top job as Commissioner.
Hoping to escape a decade’s worth of institutional civil war between top brass and rank and file and leave behind the grossly unpopular tenure of predecessor of Drew Harris, Capel Street is an interesting litmus test of Commissioner Kelly and the force.
Similar to the assaults on the Defence Forces over the Crotty-O’Brien feeding frenzy will Gardai continue to be thrown into the media-NGO steamroller when the inevitable next diversity related incident occurs?
Is public welfare secondary to diversity dogma? Can and will An Garda Síochána continue to ape the importation of UK-style PC culture up and to the prosecution of petty acts of alleged hate speech?
The song and dance of the George Nkencho while erroneous at the time appears to have set the institutional tempo for An Garda Síochána as to how the diversity lobby is setting the terms of engagement.
While the nature of crime is altered forever more by demographic change courtesy of mass migration, Gardai are being retrofitted to hound those who oppose government asylum policies.
As a collection of foreign gangs from Albanian mobsters to Latin cartels colonise the Irish criminal underground we are expected to believe that its ‘misinformation’ is likely from Moscow which is our primary concern.
The problem isn’t the stabbing, you see. It’s that you noticed it happened. The real crime isn’t the assault; it’s the breach of narrative containment. To acknowledge what’s plain to see is to become “far-right adjacent,” a carrier of social contagion. Better to let the knife fall than let the mask slip because in modern Ireland, truth is treason in the empire of vibes.
Ireland’s institutions seem to believe that the public can be gaslit indefinitely if they just issue enough press releases and shout “misinformation!” loudly enough, reality will stop being such a nuisance. But the knives don’t care. The footage doesn’t care. And the WhatsApp groups? They’re getting very good at noticing.
So as Commissioner Justin Kelly sharpens his pencils and schedules his first DEI workshop, the public is left wondering: is the Gardaí’s job now to prevent crime, or to politely apologise for noticing it?

The rotting corpse of the Irish media is really stinking up the place now & replacing Harris changes nothing, so a lot of the force might be polishing-up their CVs if the rising tide of violence washes up new, less onerous roles in private security. This shitshow has been instigated from beyond our borders & is likely to continue until something changes, elsewhere. The Irish people are certainly not about to grow a pair, any time soon & the Irish States attempts at containment are unlikely to exceed their ability to build hospitals or bike sheds.
